Holiday traditions with STEM

My partner and I plan to involve our students into a project where students will learn about different customs and traditions of celebrating Christmas, New Year and Easter in Greece and Croatia.

CILJEVI

We will study and compare holiday habits, customs and traditions. We would like our students to familiarize with cultural heritage connected with holidays of the two countries, to make students understand that there are similarities but also diversities. Students will be using English, in that way we expect them to improve their writing and reading skills.

RADNI POSTUPAK

My partner school and I plan to equally distribute the activities between our students. At the beginning we think our students should introduce themselves and write something about themselves. As this project is about holidays, we would like our students to do a research about customs and traditions (food and drink, fests, visiting relatives,...) in partner countries, meaning Croatians will do a research about Greek customs, and Greek students about Croatian. Students will post on Twinspace and the next step will be to check the accuracy of posted materials. Students will be able to post text, video clips, pictures. After that students will compare customs and traditions and create a list of similarities and differences between countries. We plan to do this around each holiday as it approaches. After Easter, the Greeks will create a tester using STEM which will give the right and wrong answer to questions connected to the subject. Croatians will create a quiz using Socrative, a quiz introduced to teachers participating in an Erasmus+ KA1 course in Stockholm „Flipped classroom“.

OÈEKIVANI REZULTATI

We plan a public Twinspace. We expect our students' reading, writing and speaking skills to improve. Students will get familiar to STEM constructing hardware and software applications, a quiz tester. Students will alsco increase their awareness of other cultures and traditions regarding three major holidays. We hope the students will get interested in different customs and traditions and become more eager to contact people from different countries. The teachers expect to continue co-operation in the future with other projects.
